Poison Ivy - custom pony by StudioHarajuku Poison Ivy - custom pony by StudioHarajuku
My entry for Fancraftic 3

Poison Ivy from Batman.
I wasn't sure about this piece, it hasn't turned out as I had expected, though I am not that sure about the techniques in making custom ponies. I looked at a few tutorials which aided me in the de-haring of the original pony and a few basics in the customisation.

My original plan was to de-hair the pony then sculpt on the new hair (I didn't have access to new hair how I wanted it) and the ivy before I began painting. I managed to get the hair sculpted on using a two part epoxy putty commonly used for sculpting miniatures, however the ivy proved to be rather difficult instead the ivy has been applied after the pony was repainted.
There are about 10 layers of paint including the base coat to bring the pony from the black it was sprayed to the green she is now.

Please let me know what you think of her, I would like to see what could be done to make her look a little more decent. I am glad that I have tried this though I don't think that I will be attempting another pony customisation.

awwww adorable!!!

I really like its pose and positioning, yet would probably elaborate a bit more with the eyes, and a bit more details of its hair.. or mane.. or something....

otherwise.... dude, this is great for first attempt Kelly!!!!

My thoughts were exactly like `DCZed's... I love the leafs as they look so real but the pony's head is something completely different compared to them. I'd try and add more details to the face at least

But the idea is perfect and I think if you'd use the "real" hair it wouldn't look as good as it does now.

Good luck in the contest!

I wish I could give you more than it was already said but then again... if 2 people say the same thing it has more weight than just one saying it :D

And I think you have a very good chance in the contest

It always helps to hear some things twice, you could have totally disagreed with Dean and if you hadn't have said it I wouldn't have known.

Thanks alot.

For your first attempt at customizing MLP I think you did great! :D The ivy looks wonderful, you did a really great job with that. The only crit I can give is add a little more detail to the eyes with both an iris and a pupil, and maybe some light spots as well, and also be a little more careful with the painting as there is some green on the orange of the hair and vice versa! What sort of paint did you use?

Overall, very nice job! I like the shape of the tail :aww: :)
